Name andMarriage Stones Nothing says true love like a hand crafted marriage stone so it seems fitting to dedicate a casestudy to them on Valentines Day. These beautiful stones have graced the entrances of houses for centuries and are still popular. Historically, the initials of husband, wife and a date were often carved on a piece of granite and used above the front door, sometimes two names with entwined hearts between! Getting to the point

CASE STUDY Re-pointing is no job for an amateur. Even the most keen DIYer will find problems aplenty along the way. Stone and brick work is a specialist skill, especially when it comes to period properties. Over time, buildings become prone to wear and tear and they do need preservation to retain their structural integrity. What is Lime Pointing? Lime pointing differs from traditional pointing in that lime mortar is used instead of cement. At Matthew Thebault Stonemasons Limited, we mix the lime based mortar together and use it to fill any gaps between the stones in the home, chimney, or exterior walls. The lime mortar is inserted into the cavities and left to set and seal up any gaps. The application requires meticulous control within the drying process and special consideration has to be given to the weather conditions

CASE STUDY Purchased with the vision of bringing it back to its original glory with modern elements, this listed building featured two stunning fireplaces beautiful feature walls and a full granite exterior. Uncovering & restoring over 300 years of history This property needed to be completely gutted, from top to bottom as it was in such a poor state. From the perspective of Matthew Thebault Stonemasons, we were commissioned to restore two fireplaces, internal walls and all of the house exterior. It was extremely important that all the existing stone work was matched piece by piece. One of the fireplaces was just in a heap on the floor, this required a complete restoration, fitting each stone and using only restoration lime mortar to be in keeping with the rest of the property. The second fireplace was in situ but
